Family Child Care Providers
Family Child Care Providers (Home Daycare)
Parents are constantly on the lookout for what is best for their children. Current research and the resulting legislation are rapidly raising the standards for quality child care. A CDA Credential, in many states, is a requirement for child care licensing.
Family Child Care Providers, just like their center-based counterparts, want to offer families the best possible program for their children. The CDA Council has very specific standards by which it evaluates Family Child Care (home daycare) programs and providers. It is important to understand what is expected.
You may have already had the opportunity to look over a CDA Application packet for Family Child Care Providers from the Council for Professional Recognition. Chances are, if you are like most, it probably seemed a bit confusing and you may be wondering if this is something you can do. Or, you may have gotten to the point where you are thinking about dropping out of the process, even if it means losing your ability to stay licensed in child care. Let me reassure you, with a little help, it is possible to successfully complete the CDA process. The alternative is not an acceptable option, because the young children you care for are counting on you to be their care provider. It is for this reason I have dedicated the past 10 years to helping CDA Candidates.
I have helped countless candidates through the CDA process, both in the classroom and through this website. Until recently I provided self-published booklets with specialized help for Family Child Care Providers. Over the years, the demand for help has increased substantially and I was unable to keep up with the requests for assistance. I realized there needed to be a preparation manual for CDA candidates. Fortunately, Redleaf Press shared my vision and The CDA Prep Guide, the only one of its kind, is a reality! It is currently available for pre-order and will be published in May, 2008. For more information about pre-ordering this wonderful resource, go to the CDA Prep Guide page on this website.
